Brief break from India blogging… last weekend Cherise and I went to a performance art piece, Because I Can’t Be Beethoven. The general idea is that the artist, Parris Patton, froze a piano into a large block of ice, and was going to spend the evening chopping it out of the ice, and after it was free… burn it.

Unfortunately, the best laid plans of mice and men came into play.

The ice proved to be extremely sturdy. After just a couple minutes of chopping, Patton had already begun to break a sweat. He diligently continued, but after a couple hours and being behind schedule, he got a little bit of help.

Finally, the decision was made to use the propane intended to burn the piano down to help melt the ice. In the end, they ran out of propane, and from pictures I saw, the piano (and most of the ice) was still standing the next morning. The event was still worth it though… the crowd was excited, and I got some pretty fire pictures.

You can finally start to see the piano here:

I believe this somewhat ludicrous scene is a good way to end this post.
